Setting the drag for school tuna

While trolling for school tuna, do not set the drag on your reels too tight. Set it just tight enough to set the hook on the tuna, but light enough to allow line to peel off the reel freely. At the fast trolling speeds required for the smaller tuna, a hard strike can break the line, rod, or pull the whole outfit overboard - if the drag is too tight. Once the tuna is hooked, you can slow down the boat and tighten the drag.
